Vic Sessions - Jessie Roper
I remember when I was a young guitar player and loved to sit around with other musicians and play for each other. It brought out the best in us and we had some amazing conversation sprinkled with great memories. VicSession is basically an extension of those summer nights on the beach and the winter nights around a fire.
I had the idea to bring some local singer songwriters together for a night and after sharing it with a couple friends they all got really excited about it and VicSesions was born. We ended up adding a meal by a five star chef and drinks mixed by one of the best bartenders in Victoria. I’m not kidding you, it was an amazing evening and we had hours of footage of conversation and performances to sort through. Jesse Roper even stayed long enough to try and walk off with a my $300 bottle of scotch!
I can’t believe it was over a year ago when we did that. It was rewarding and a lot of work. I can’t wait to shoot more VicSessions. We are retooling now to see how we can shoot them faster and more efficiently so that we can celebrate as many local singer songwriters as possible. The main idea is to give local writers and musicians a platform for more exposure and another asset they can share with the public and through their social media.
Really it is an extension of what we are doing at vic42.com our local website. The whole point of Vic42 is to share stories of local people in Victoria that are interesting and inspiring. We hooked up with the Zone Radio station over here to celebrate local bands. These relationships made me really want to do something to help them all get more exposure. The local music scene in Victoria is full of amazing people.
