Deafheaven ‘NEW BERMUDA’
Punishing. Textured. Layered. Brilliant. Just a handful of words I’m trying to use that best sum this record up. I know the screaming vocals of lead singer George Clarke are not going to be for everyone but if you can get past that and begin to hear them as part of the many ‘layers’ these songs are constructed upon, you’ll hear something really, really good.
Honorable mentions to a couple other good metal albums this year: Lamb of God ‘VII: Sturm Und Drang’ and Marilyn Manson ‘The Pale Emperor’, both in my top 50.
